Send a PDF for signature
A practical walkthrough from an unsigned PDF to a completed agreement, using the workflow in Contracy.

The signing walkthrough
Prepare your PDF
Finish the wording and layout in your usual document tool, then export a PDF. In Signatures, start a request with an upload, existing library files, or a Business template. You can also choose Request signatures from an existing document. Review the prepared PDF, especially when combining several files.
Add the recipients
Enter each recipient's name and email carefully. Choose simultaneous signing if everyone can sign independently, or sequential signing if they need to act in order. A mistyped address can send an invitation to the wrong person, so check this before proceeding.
Place the fields
Select the signer and field type, then place the field on the PDF. Each signer needs a required signature field. Add initials, names, dates, text, or checkboxes where needed. Drag, tap, or use keyboard placement controls. Review every page. A ready template can skip this stage when assignments and layout already pass the checks.
Review and send
The Review and send screen brings the PDF, recipients, and message together. Check field assignments and the document name. Use Options for signing order, expiry, automatic reminders, and optional email verification codes. Save a draft if you are not ready; choose Send for signature when the request is complete.
Follow the request
Recipients review and sign through their private email links without creating an account. Follow execution status in Signatures; My work also shows your available signatures and work waiting on others. Reminders can help active signers, and a request can expire or be declined, so do not assume that sending means completion.
Keep both files
Once everyone has signed, download the completed PDF and the separate signing evidence file. Participants also receive the completed copy by email. Keep the evidence alongside the agreement when saving it in your own records.
Before you press send
Check who is signing, which fields belong to them, and whether the PDF is the final version. The PDF and fields are fixed once the request is sent. Correct the draft first rather than relying on editing the live request afterward.
- Recipient names and email addresses are correct
- Each signer has a required signature field
- Fields sit on the correct page and stay within its edges
- Signing order, message, expiry, and reminders match the request
Know what uses a send
A request counts once when it is successfully sent, even when it includes multiple signers. Free provides 5 free signature requests per calendar month. Saving drafts and sending reminders do not use another send.
Completed agreements, source PDFs, and other retained files use your workspace's storage allowance. Business includes unlimited sends, but it still has a storage limit; check both when planning a recurring workflow.
When the agreement repeats
If you send the same layout often, a Business template can preserve the PDF, roles, and field positions for next time. Each use becomes a separate draft with the recipients you select, so the earlier signed agreement stays separate.
Start with one agreement
5 free sends each month. Your next PDF is a good place to begin.
